A New Delhi

It’s not often that one takes a vacation and visits relatives

There was a time when the family used to visit New Delhi every year… almost all our relatives were based there.  But I hadn’t been there in the past 8 years or so.  And this trip was way overdue.  So, this time, instead of setting off to an unseen land, we decided to head towards Delhi.

Being out of town (and away from a Net connection for 8 days!) also explains why I haven’t been able to post anything new on the blog, lately.  Anyway, I got the opportunity to do a lot of things I have been meaning to do for a long long time.

Here are some highlights…

  • Attended a family function where I met up with over 40 family members – some of them for the first time!
  • Visited Pallika Bazaar and bought DVDs, instead of the VHS tapes I’d picked up 8 years ago.
  • Went to Connaught Place and saw how it has not changed much, except that it’s now called “Rajiv Chowk”!
  • Sampled a ride on the spanking new Singapore-style Delhi Metro (It is simply awesome!)
  • Visited the Lotus Temple and saw how it has become a picnic ground for all and sundry.
  • Went for a drive to Gurgaon to see its shining new malls and experience its yuppie development.
  • Met some of my wife’s school friends and saw the house she grew up in.
  • Spent quality time with my daughter for 7 days and 7 nights – something work does not permit me much of.

All in all, it was an eventful week.
