The Heat Is On
A recent article in the Times of India highlighted some bizzare developments in the recent past as far as the world’s weather is concerned :
Snow has fallen in UAE for the first time ever, leaving a white blanket over the mountains of Ras-al-Khaimah. The desert country saw temperatures dropping to minus five, stunning its residents!
Grass is growing in Antarctica for the first time. And, 25000 people have died of heat wave in Europe!
Average global temperatures increased by 0.6 C in the last hundred years, but are now increasing at the rate of 0.1 C every decade!
The 10 hottest years in recorded history have occurred since 1990.
According to NASA, the polar ice cap is now melting at an alarming rate of 9% per decade. As many as 2 billion people may be at risk of flooding by 2050!
The World Meteorological Organization estimates that the number of extreme weather events has doubled in the last ten years, and a big culprit is the emission of greenhouse gases.
We are not teaching this stuff in our schools and colleges. We are not organizing corporate drives to increase awareness among employees. We are not mobilizing resources against the sale and purchase of products that contribute to global warming. There is hardly even a mention of all this in the media, be it Press, Radio or Television.
What are we doing about it?!
the strange occurrences that you mentioned are ominous of some cataclysmic event. i hope that the highly industrialised nations take responsibility for their abuse of nature and initiate steps to reverse the dangerous trend in motion.
After reading about all the disasters that have taken place this year, including the most recent – the Tsunami in the Indian Ocean and the hurricanes that hit Florida, and after watching the movie – The Day After Tomorrow, it surely puts things into perspective.We’ve been abusing the Earth and now, Mother Nature is coming back after us with a vengeance. Poetic Justice?
We live in a fast paced world, pecuniarily rich.Unless attempted to unravel a method of estimating envoirmental, emotional, and ethereal wealth. All that is earned the spending will be spent, on what was never a reason for spending. A calorie filled diet and a plush gymnasium to compensateThis reminds me of a story … an interesting one, old man used to narrate of a local bumpkin. A wealthy magnate approached the local bumpkin, who was on a fishing line and snoring away on a late morning.”Lo rise and shine, work hard for you may get a boat to fish” said the magnate”Why” was the reply”That u may, go deep into the sea and net lots of fish.””Then” “Then you get lots of money and buy a ship and have a company that have managers who will do fishing for you.””Then !!! “”Then you buy a large chateau””Then ??? “”Then all you have to do is retire”Thats when the bumpkin smiled, “And what do you think I am doing right now”So now I believe before the ozone clefts into a proportion of non repair. And i being the cause of it.Switch of the refrigerators, sell of the room coolers, and rush to Trinadad and Hawaii … and like the concluding episode of Jurassic Park, let the dinosaurs fight for their own space and end.
