A New Tradition

I am not much of a conformist, and not a party animal, either.  So, unlike most of my friends and colleagues, I chose to do something different this New Year’s Eve.

31st Dec was a quiet affair – just dinner with the wife in a restaurant close by.  But the next day was when the celebrations really unfolded.

First on the agenda was a long drive beyond the suburbs, to a place called Marve.  For those of you who are not familiar with Bombay, this is as close to an idyllic fishing village as we can get.  The drive to Marve is sheer pleasure – you can finally breathe clean air for a change!  And we had a George Winston CD to keep us company.

As pleasurable as the journey was the destination itself.  ‘The Resort’ is a well-maintained beach resort with a poolside cafe that overlooks the Arabian Sea.  Fortunately, Bombay was going through a cool spell, and the weather was the nicest it’s been in years.  We had a good meal at The Resort, and lazed by the sea shore, taking in the sun and the sea breeze.  The three of us had a fantastic time, especially my daughter who was seeing the seashore for the first time in her life!

All in all, it was a great decision to miss the party circuit (at atrocious prices) and instead, explore nature at our own pace.  So good, in fact, that we were thinking of making it an annual tradition.
