Even Better Than The Real Thing
Question : What do you get when you start with the best blogging tool on earth, and attempt to make it even better? Answer : SquareSpace
Having beta-tested the Typepad service, I know just how good it is (was?). Whether it’s functionality or usability or elegance, Typepad truly offered one of the best experiences any service can offer on the Web. But the folks at SquareSpace just raised the bar on it…
Not only can you do any thing that the best blogging tools let you do, but you can use the SquareSpace service to create complete websites. Which means you no longer need to restrict yourself to just blogging on your site. You can create HTML pages, add a guestbook, offer a file download/upload facility on your site, restrict access to certain portions of your website, include photo albums and a whole lot more! Of course, standard blogging aids like server logs, XML feeds, domain mapping, etc. are all included.
Like Typepad, SS is a fully managed and hosted service. So you don’t need to worry about buying server space, setting up the software, etc. Support at SS is also an enjoyable experience, which is not what I can say about my tryst with Typepad. (They even added a couple of features for me, before I signed up on SS!!!) The best part is that I can opt for the highest level of flexibility (full code editing) and still retain the design templates of SS that allow me to change the look-and-feel of my website without writing a single line of code!
I have already shifted my site to SS. If you’re looking for an easy, yet powerful, way to create and maintain a website/weblog, your search ends here.
Hi. I am considering Squarespace for a project. I would like to ask you, as a user, is there any kind of support community currently building up around this service? Also, who is behind it? There doesn’t appear to be any info about the creators on the website. Curious.
* Editor’s Reply *I don’t know of any support community around SS as exists for Typepad or MovableType. But that’s probably because the service is fairly new and yet to catch on, compared to older platforms. I know their site doesn’t speak much of their lineage, but I specifically emailed them on this subject and their replies were quite satisfactory. My experience with their own support team has been fantastic ! I also know that by mid-July they are also launching a host of new features to add to their already feature-rich service !
Hi, I wholeheartedly agree with Naveen. SS allows unprecedented ease in both blog and website development. I am working on expanding my site in different directions and SS can let me do that with ease.-Nicholaswww.engagingthought.com
