On Influence

Essential Skill

Almost every thing we want to achieve depends on our ability to influence others…

As children, we try to influence parents so that they make decisions in our favour.

As young adults, we attempt to influence our friends and family, to try and make them see things our way.

As working professionals, we try to influence reporting managers, peers and colleagues, so that they may align with the work we do.

Even business owners need to influence a variety of stakeholders to achieve their business goals.

Thanks to a Sales stint I did at the beginning of my career (almost 25 years ago), I’m fortunate to have a critical skill I’ve needed throughout my Life.

Help!

“help” verb | improve (a situation or problem); be of benefit to

How do you help someone who doesn’t want to be helped?

How do you let go of the desire to improve someone’s life, knowing how much of difference you could really make?

Shouldn’t every adult get to choose the kind of life they want to live, even if you disagreed with their choices or knew better?

Would it even qualify as “help” if the receiver did not want it?!
