Missing Pieces
This one is about 9/11. I know that enough has been written and said on that subject, but I couldn’t help share this with you.
On September 11, 2001, an unthinkable act of terrorism occurred in New York City and Washington DC. It left holes in our lives, holes in our skyline, holes in our spirit. These are some of the stories of those who were there. There are our missing pieces.
This is a remarkable piece of work that brings some disturbing truths to light.
11 Sep 2003, Editor’s Note : Atanu Dey writes in a new 9/11 post :
“It is not immediately clear why the death of 3,016 (Americans) should merit all that global attention and grief. Yesterday, 10,000 children died of malnutrition and preventable childhood diseases. Three times as many died yesterday as were killed on Sept 11th 2001. They were humans too.”
Puts things in perspective, doesn’t it?
On that unforgettable day the veneer of security in the United States was punctured beyond belief.those events took us by surprise because of our unshaken faith in the might of america and its infallibility.it was the manner in which those deaths came about which caught our attention and unleashed coverage that made sure we never forget what they suffered.the deaths which routinely occur are no less important but we have learnt to become blithe about it as if it were commonplace and we could do nothing about it. Yes it is sad that we make a hue and cry over a few thousand deaths in the most powerful nation in the world and disregard all the other unfortunate loss of lives because we haven’t a slick package of moving words and poignant pictures to stir us to a thought leave alone act on it.
