The Wonder Years

The Magic of Christmas!

The last week of December is always a special time of the year, when the streets and lit and the festive season is in the air… A couple of weeks ago, we’d pulled out our own ‘christmassy’ stuff from the closet, and spread them around the house.  Pumpkin had even helped decorate the Christmas tree with much pride and enthusiasm!  Christmas season had begun.

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh.

Then, came the big question : “What do you want Santa to bring, this Christmas?”

We gave her all the options we could think of, with the caveat that you don’t always get what you ask for.  And, that Santa only brings gifts to children who behave well and not the ones on the ‘naughty list’.  After considering all our suggestions, she finally decided that she didn’t want any of that; she wanted a “big clock for the hand”!  A wrist watch, if you please?

All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
see my two front teeth!

I wanted this Christmas to be a special one.  This was the first time that our dear daughter was old enough to fully enjoy it, and I wanted her to enjoy every bit of it.  So, we took her to the mall to meet Santa Claus and see all the lights and decorations… We explained all the Christmas concepts we could… She participated in the decoration of the crib, and enjoyed the sweets and cake that her grandparents sent for us…

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight

Most of all, I wanted Pumpkin to experience new sights and sounds… new experiences.  And experience, we did!

A theatre in Worli – Orama – was offering a 4-dimensional movie experience, complete with 3-D vision goggles and seats that move in six directions.  And, this Christmas, they were screening “Santa and the Snowman”.  The 20-minute show was simply amazing!

It was the first time Pumpkin was in a movie hall.  It was the first time, she was seeing any thing in 3-D.  It was the first time that she was seeing Santa and the Snowman in complete animated action.  And, it was the first time, she experienced snowfall!  In the theatre, yes.  And, wind and water and heat… In sync with the animation in the movie!

After all, this is a time for miracles, isn’t it?!  I am just glad I was a part of it.

P.S. Santa did bring her a “big clock for her hand”, along with a few other toys…
