Tidbits : January 2008
It’s been a while since I posted any thing on my experiences with Pumpkin’s pre-school years. It’s not that there wasn’t any thing to write about. She’s growing each day, and learning new things at a furious pace! But, attending to Tiger has kept us kind of busy, these past few months. I only hope that his experiences of discovery don’t get jaded in our minds, by the time it’s his turn to amuse us! Anyway, I digress.
Ever so often, you hear your child say something so unexpected, and so completely heart-warming that you stop every thing else and just take in the experience. Many of these utterances can’t quite be compartmentalized in a neat package, or given a title or a beginning or an end. But, they’re surely worth noting… and recalling for years to come… With that in mind, I begin a new series of parenting posts entitled “Tidbits” in which I will write about just these things.
When I look back at the past few weeks, I recall two incidents that left a mark…
Mathemagic
Pumpkin : You know, I know a really big number… 100 !
Pumpkin : I know an even bigger number… 20 !Me : Do you know which two numbers make the number “20” ?
Pumpkin : Yes, 1. Twen and 2. Tea. !!!

We were on our way back from a trip to the mall, and the traffic was too bad. I was groaning a bit in discomfort, because of my lower back pain.
Pumpkin enquired what was wrong, so I explained the situation to her.
Spontaneously, she remarked : “When I grow up to be 16 years old (that’s her idea of being a grown up!), I will drive the car and you relax at the back, ok?“
And, to think that she’s yet to complete four years (next week)!
You and your daughter are a Mutual Admiration club! I’m so glad that both of you love each other the way you do. Hope she takes after you on the math front though!
